My latest pleasure has been the flowers blooming in my grammy garden each morning I cut a few and put them in a vase somewhere in the house or give a few away to friends that day. We have roses and peonies, both are beautiful and both smell great. I feel abundance just to be able to share them and brighten someone else’s day too. This is my gift for the week!

The end of December and continuing into January many people take stock in their lives. It is also at time when people look to what they want to accomplish in their next year. Several years ago a friend introduced me to the process of creating a vision board. I thought it was such a wonderful process that I have spent time every January since creating one. I love it because it is a creative process where I take pictures, words or phrases that have symbolize my goals and then glue them to a posterboard. I want symbols of attitudes or things that I want to show up during the course of my year. I have goals in any categories personal, financial, career, travel, social, and family. I paste them to a board and I hang it some where in my room where I can see it each morning to remind me of what I want to create in my life. I usually have friend come over to make it a wonderful social experience as well. It is a fun way of focusing on what you want and it gives me a gentle reminder to keep at my goals because they are on their way. You can try it in any format that works for you creating a board, making a book, writing down you goals on a chalk board. Try it and send me a post about your experience.
*** I want to note that some of my goals manifest during that year and other take more than a year to unfold but so far they always manifest.

In this new year I have decided to write at least 2 post per week to my website blog. I currently have another blog on http://www.empowher.com/users/dr-daemon-jones where I focus mainly on health condition and how to treat them naturally. I enjoy writing those post but I miss talking about the spiritual, emotional, food and cooking parts of my practice. I have decided to use my website blog, this blog to share my thoughts and tips about how simple acts and understanding can enhance your joy and excitement about living a great life. I’m sure it will take me several weeks before I find my perfect flow for this blog. As I have learned in life it always takes longer than I think, or sometimes even want to really find my perfect rhythm for my life. So I ask that you have an open mind and willingness to just see what speaks to you about whatever I post. In time I’m sure that you one of my thoughts will help you find a way to make your life just a little bit easier and more fun!
With Love and Joy for my new adventure,
Dr. Dae

Last year I had several friends who suggested that I start a blog. To be honest I didn’t know what a blog was but if I could use it as a way to talk to people about getting healthy I was game to try it. Since I started I have tried different formats and I think I have finally found what I feel comfortable writing about. How to get healthy day by dae. When I tell people that I am a naturopathic physician people automatically think I am a vegetarian that eats celery and knows everything about living a good balanced life. It is true that since I started this path 16 years ago I do have better habits. I didn’t learn them all overnight. I didn’t even learn them all during my naturopathic medical school. I learned most of advice that I share with patients and audiences through my life experience and the experiences of my patients. I will now write this blog share my experiences of how I practice and learn to live a more healthy, vibrant and balanced life. Please share your experience too. I will learn more from you.
Live vibrantly,

As I stated in another blog article I love hydrotherapy. I learned about it’s healing power during my naturopathic education. So when a friend invited me to a day of water treatments sponsored by a few individuals I was interested to see what it would be like. The event was sponsored in a Turkish bathhouse because there are so many types of therapy options. There was a large cool swimming pool, several sauna rooms, steam baths, hottubs, cold tubs, shower rooms, dunking tubs, and rooms for herbal body treatments. We were scheduled for 3 different sets of treatments during our 4 hours at the bathhouse. It was an intense day of hot and cold alternating treatments. What I mean by hot and cold alternating treatments is that we would start in a hot treatment like a sauna and finish with a cold treatment like a cold shower. Hot and cold treatments are more vigorous and require more stamina from the participant. Since me and my friend are healthy it was a wonderfully exhausting and purifying experience. It is definitely something we would do again in the future I would probably make a weekend of it and stay close to the bathhouse so I could have a healthy meal and have a deep nights sleep.
***I do have a note of caution their was one participant who got nauseous and sick from the treatments because she overextended herself. I mention this to tell people to pay attention to the time limits set in the treatments so you don’t over do it and make yourself sick. I did learn about many of these treatments in naturopathic school so just because they are water treatments don’t mean you can ignore safety precautions they do affect how the body operates.
The message I want to convey here is that if you are using water therapy as part of a detoxification regiment and you have a health condition you need to be under the supervision of a qualified healthcare practitioner. I would be happy to support you.

I love hydrotherapy! It is the use of water as a therapy to help the body heal itself. A wonderful benefit of hydrotherapy is that it helps to remove toxin from the body through the skin. It also boost the immune function about 16-24 hours after a treatment. I really love anything associated with water but some of my favorite treatments are steam room, whirlpool and baths. One of my good friends lives in a apartment that has both a whirlpool and a steam room. It was a wonderful treat when we decided to just sit in the whirlpool one evening after work. It was about 7ish and as we stepped into the whirlpool one of her neighbors greeted us and began to tell us of her ritual to come to the whirlpool daily. Soon there were others that joined sharing the same story of how this is a daily occurrence for them too. In my infinite curiosity if they received benefit from these daily “treatment”. All said they were hooked on the routine and didn’t feel as relaxed if they skipped several days. It was great for me to see people creating relaxation and stress relief into their daily schedules. It was nice to see the community in the apartment supporting each other as well.
If you have a bathtub in your home, or have a access to a steam room or sauna you can make this an enjoyable part of your weekly detoxification process.

One of my favorite smoothies that I food while I was on a detox diet was a raw smoothie. Actually most of the smoothies I make are raw, meaning they contain fruits and vegetables that have not been cooked. While I was on a detox I found out about green smoothies, smoothies that have green vegetables in them.
What is the advantage of eating raw, uncooked foods? There are micronutrients, phytonutrients, enzymes, and and fiber that can be lost or altered in the heating process. When you have a portion of your diet raw you get all nutrients in their natural state. Eating smoothies, salads, nuts and seeds, pieces of fruit are all examples of raw foods. There are many different recipes, some of the ones I have tried I have not enjoyed at all but there are others that are really tasty. One I really like has romaine lettuce bananas and strawberries. Another favorite that comes to mind is the avocado smoothie that is found in my book. I love avocados so these is a treat I stumbled into as a dare from a patien. It tastes like the fruit but has extra fiber in it as well. I think the real trick is to just add a small amount of the veggies along with mostly fruit. It is hidden treasure that adults and children can love together.

I was once in a class where the teacher told us to not to watch or listen to the news while we were on our detox diet. I thought it was the oddest thing. He talked about how the news is filled with violence and fearful thinking. This poisons the mind and the thoughts into negative patterns. I thought about his words and agreed that the news is a negative influence and looked forward to shutting off the TV for a few days. It was quite refreshing to take a new break. – no newspapers, internet or TV. I was not as worried or upset about events out of my control. I realized that the constant negative news was creating an underlying level of anxiety. I actually began to avoid the news in the morning just to start out with the right attitude. If it felt like there was something I need to watch I would check in before dinner (not during dinner) and I do not watch TV news before I go to sleep.
It cleared my mind and gave me time to think about what I want to create in my life. It created space to think about the type of books, DVDs, Movies, CD that I would rather see or hear instead of just unconsciously listening to news that I don’t necessarily want to l hear about.
We will have exercises about news detoxification during our web-based detoxification program. https://checkout.google.com/view/buy?o=shoppingcart&shoppingcart=232454838282739

Deep breathing detoxifies the body by clearing the lungs of carbon dioxide and other gas toxins. It is an important part of the detoxification process. In addition to releasing toxins from the body, deep breathing is a way of detoxifying the mind.
Meditation is a way of detoxifying or emptying the mind. The concept of meditation can be confusing for those who have never done it. I have been doing it for years and I now understand there are so many variations of meditation that there is bound to be one that for works for everybody. For example, when a patient comes in hurried or frantic about some situation I usually have them sit with their feet rooted on the floor their body uncrossed and just breathe deeply. I instruct them to fill their lungs with air and then push it all the way out. After 10 breaths they are calmer. This is a such a simple meditation but a powerful one because it achieves the goal of relaxing them and puts them back into a more restful state versus when they arrived. I more active meditation, which is one of my favorites, is the sun salutation in yoga. Really any type of yoga practice is a from of moving meditation. My niece has her own meditative practice she said she wants to do yoga and climbs on my mat after about 3 poses she ask me to tickle her and we both dissolve into giggles on the mat – I call that a laughing meditation!

During my detox I was asked to make up this concoction called a “liver flush”. I was instructed to do it weekly for a period of time. It contained water, fresh lemon juice, cayenne pepper, maple syrup and minced garlic, YUM! There are many variations of the liver flush and this the one I used and sometimes give to my current patients as well. The purpose of the flush to help your liver, the main organ of detoxification release any extra toxins so it can work more effectively for the rest of your body. It is sort of like an oil change. With all the stories I heard about how our liver and colon needed to be cleansed I thought for sure this was going to be a major event and something I had to prepare for. I mixed up and drank this unusual concoction and waited for something to happen. Nothing did. I did the same thing again next week and waited for something to happen and nothing did. When I went back to see my naturopathic physician I asked her what I was doing wrong. She said I was doing everything just fine we don’t always have a negative reaction when we are clearing out our system. She suggested I stop listening to all the horror stories and laughed.
The liver flush is used to make sure that we do not have negative reactions or disease process creep up on us as we get older. It is a maintenance process that works well with a detoxification process or diet.
